Looks like Sony isn’t slowing down anytime soon when it comes to new cameras.
As a matter of fact it seems to be doing the exact opposite by announcing two new compact cameras with a 24mm to 720mm zoom range with 4K video capabilities.
The new models are the HX99 and HX95 , they weight around 1 pound and they are also super compact. Their sensor size is 1/2.3inches, which means that they carry a smaller sensor that the RX100 series cameras.
It might sound like a downgrade ( and it is ) but the sensor size is exactly what allows these cameras to achieve their super zoom range. The new cameras are supposed to come out in October with prices ranging from 500 euros for the HX95 and 520 euros for the HX99.
Below you can see a video sample from the cameras, directly from Sony.
What’s your take on this. Would you like to have a super zoom with 4K video in your pocket as an all around camera or do you prefer the RX100 series or even mirrorless systems?
